What a menu QR code is for

Guests scan, read which of the 14 allergens are in a dish, and the pass keeps moving. That only works if the public page matches the recipes you actually cook. A stale QR is worse than a printed matrix the chef updates.

Natasha’s Law is a different duty

From 1 October 2021, food prepacked for direct sale must show the name and full ingredients, with the 14 allergens emphasised. FSA: introduction to allergen labelling changes (PPDS). A QR code on a table talker does not label a wrapped sandwich in the fridge.

Questions about allergen QR codes

Does an allergen QR code meet Natasha’s Law?
No. Natasha’s Law requires the name of the food and full ingredients, with allergens emphasised, on food prepacked for direct sale. A QR code on a menu is extra information for seated guests. It does not replace the label on the pack. Source: FSA PPDS guidance.
Can guests use a QR instead of asking staff?
They can read the 14 allergens you published. Staff still have to answer questions and must not guess. Keep the recipe chart accurate, then share the public page.
