Checkit or System Hub

Checkit is operations monitoring: industrial sensors, native apps, and 24/7 fridge and hot-hold logging. System Hub is the Safer Food, Better Business diary your team already owes — opening checks, probe logs, 4-weekly review — in the browser, weekly, no install. It will not watch a fridge at 3am.

TL;DR

Choose Checkit if missed temperatures come from nobody walking to the walk-in, and you will fund sensors, install, and a managed platform. Choose System Hub if you are replacing the paper SFBB pack and will still probe during the shift. They are different jobs. Do not buy both unless you will actually run two systems.

Checkit positioning above is from checkit.net/solutions/food-safety (reviewed 21 September 2026): industrial-grade sensors, digitised checklists in native iOS and Android apps, automated fridge and freezer logging.

Temperature records decide this comparison

A paper fridge log filled in at close cannot prove what happened at 03:00. A phone check at opening and once during service is better than memory — and still has a gap between readings. Checkit’s sensors close that gap. That is the product.

Most UK restaurants, pubs, and cafés are not legally required to run continuous monitoring. They are required to follow their food safety management system and keep evidence. FSA chilling guidance is 8°C or below for chilled food. Your pack may set a tighter limit. Record the reading you took. Source: FSA chilling.

System Hub logs fridge, freezer, cooking, and hot-holding with a name on the line. It will not page you when a walk-in drifts while the site is closed. If that is the failure mode, Checkit is the better fit. Read temperature records for restaurants.

SFBB shape vs digital HACCP

System Hub walks the Safer Food, Better Business diary: opening and closing, deliveries, the 4 Cs, and the 4-weekly review. Checkit is HACCP workflows you configure, plus monitoring. A chain with its own procedures may prefer that flexibility. An independent that already owns the FSA pack usually wants the pack, not a blank checklist builder.

Neither is EHO approved. Digital records are acceptable when complete, dated, and accessible. Digital SFBB records cites the FSA electronic-diary option for England and Wales.

Multi-site

Checkit is built so 10 sites, then 50, then hundreds run the same way, with sensors on under-counter chillers and hot-holding. System Hub’s multi-site view is overdue opening checks, temps, and 4-weekly reviews — for groups that still run the diary as a human job. Typical System Hub ICP is 1–20 sites, not an estate IoT rollout.

What still sits on paper if you pick Checkit

Fire alarm tests (RRO 2005 records), Challenge 25, the visitor book, and the booking diary are not Checkit’s job. They stay on clipboards unless you buy something else. System Hub can take those as optional modules. That is not a reason to skip Checkit if sensors are the need.

Price and commitment

System Hub Food Safety is £5/week per location (~£260 a year) after a 14-day trial with no card, weekly Stripe, cancel anytime.

Checkit does not publish a list price on its food-safety page. Expect a quote for software plus installed sensors. Independent round-ups have cited software from around £20 per site per month before hardware. Treat that as a third-party estimate, not Checkit’s rate card. Verify with Checkit. Hardware, install, and contract length are the costs a single-site café usually cannot justify.

Who should choose Checkit

  • Multi-site groups that want fridges watched whether staff are there or not
  • Coffee, QSR, or production kitchens standardising checks across many sites
  • Buyers who will fund sensors, install, and a native-app rollout

Ideal Checkit customer: an operations director whose problem is unattended kit and estate visibility, not a missing SFBB 4-weekly review page.

Who should choose System Hub

  • Independents and small groups replacing the paper SFBB pack
  • Kitchens that will still probe during the shift and want a name on the line
  • Venues that may add fire logs or a booking diary later, from £5–£10/week

Ideal System Hub customer: a UK restaurant, pub, or café that needs the diary completed during service, not a sensor estate.

Can I use both?

Only if you will actually run two systems: sensors for kit, System Hub for the SFBB look-back. Most teams will not. Pick the job that is failing — overnight temps, or the pack filled in at close.

Questions about System Hub and Checkit

Does System Hub replace Checkit sensors?
No. Staff still take a named probe reading. Checkit logs fridge and freezer temperatures continuously with wireless sensors. Pick sensors if missed temps happen because nobody walked to the walk-in.
Does Checkit replace the SFBB diary?
Checkit digitises checklists and HACCP workflows. It is not the FSA Safer Food, Better Business pack. You still need methods that match how the kitchen actually runs, plus a 4-weekly look-back if SFBB is your system.
Will an EHO prefer sensor logs?
They want complete, dated records. Continuous logs are strong evidence that a unit stayed in range. They are not a legal requirement for most catering businesses. Format is not the test.
Can I start without a hardware contract?
System Hub is a 14-day trial with no card, then £5/week per location via Stripe, cancel anytime. Checkit pricing is quote-led for software plus installed sensors. Ask Checkit for their terms.
