Food Alert or System Hub

Food Alert is a compliance partner: consultants write or refresh HACCP, risk assessments and policies, then Alert65 and Check65 run checklists, allergens, training and incidents, with a 24/7 expert line. System Hub assumes you already have Safer Food, Better Business — or will use the FSA pack — and need the team to complete it during the shift.

TL;DR

Choose Food Alert if you need someone to author the system, not only store the diary — HACCP, policies, audits, incidents, a 24/7 advice line. Choose System Hub if you already know the SFBB pack and will not pay a consultancy retainer to get named opening checks. We do not staff a food-safety helpline.

Food Alert details from foodalert.com/software/alert65 and their Compliance Membership page (reviewed 21 September 2026). They state ISO 27001, consultant-built HACCP, Check65 on mobile, and a 24/7 advice line. They also state “trusted by over 3,000 companies nationwide” — their figure, not ours.

Do you need someone to write the pack?

That is the fork. If there is no food safety management system, software will not invent one. Food Alert’s onboarding includes building or refining HACCP and policies. System Hub maps to SFBB tasks you already owe. If you have no pack, download Safer food, better business or hire a consultant. Do not skip written procedures.

Daily due diligence

Both can replace a clipboard for opening checks and temperatures. Food Alert’s checklists are general safety-and-hygiene tasks with consultant templates. System Hub’s are the SFBB diary headings a small catering business in England and Wales already knows. Get staff to complete checks during the shift is the System Hub bet: same job, on a phone, with alerts when skipped.

Allergens

Food Alert builds an allergen matrix and sells menu, spec, and PPDS technical work. System Hub’s 14-allergen recipe chart is for staff at the pass. An allergen QR code does not satisfy Natasha’s Law labelling for prepacked for direct sale food. If PPDS or supplier specs are the pain, Food Alert’s wider services are the better fit.

Incidents and the EHO day

Food Alert treats complaints, accidents, and incidents as cases with prompts for legal duties. System Hub’s incident log is a dated site record, not that workflow. For what an EHO asks to see in an SFBB kitchen — opening checks, temps, deliveries, sign-off, 4-weekly review — a complete diary matters more than a predicted inspection date. Food Alert markets inspection-prediction tools; we do not.

Cost and how you buy

System Hub Food Safety: 14-day trial, no card, then £5/week per location. Cancel anytime.

Alert65 pricing is via demo. Compliance Membership bundles audits, training, HACCP development, a 24/7 safety advice line, and the software. Independents cannot see a weekly number before a call. Implementation is a project — onboarding team, structured workshops — not a first check in minutes. If you want that cover, pay for it. If you only needed the diary, it is a heavy buy.

Who should choose Food Alert

  • Groups that want HACCP written and kept current by consultants
  • Ops directors who need audits, H&S, training, and incident casework in one partner
  • Anyone who will use a 24/7 advice line when something goes wrong after midnight

Ideal Food Alert customer: a multi-site hospitality business buying a compliance partner, not only a login. Their public case mix includes groups such as Fuller’s, Wasabi, and Heavenly Desserts (their site).

Who should choose System Hub

  • Owner-operators and GMs who already run SFBB and need the team to complete it during service
  • Venues that will not sit through consultancy onboarding to get a named fridge check
  • Sites that may add fire logs or bookings later, without a health-and-safety OS

Ideal System Hub customer: a UK restaurant, pub, or café replacing paper diaries, starting at £5/week.

Can I keep Food Alert for HACCP and System Hub for the shift diary?

Usually too many logins. If consultants already maintain your HACCP in Alert65, complete the daily checks there. Split only if one system is clearly the diary and the other is clearly the authored pack — and someone owns both.

Questions about System Hub and Food Alert

Is System Hub a Food Alert alternative?
Only if the job is digital daily checks and an SFBB diary. It is not an alternative if you need someone to write HACCP, run audits, or pick up the phone at 1am.
Do I still need a food safety consultant?
If you have no food safety management system, use the official SFBB pack or a consultant. Software is not a consultant. System Hub does not write your safe methods for you.
Will this get me a 5 food hygiene rating?
Neither product can promise a rating. Officers inspect the kitchen and the records. We do not publish a predicted score.
How much is each?
System Hub Food Safety is £5/week per location after a 14-day trial, no card. Food Alert Alert65 is quote-led, often bundled with Compliance Membership (audits, training, HACCP, advice line). Ask Food Alert for a demo price.
